When you climb the stairs to 20 N. Main St. and enter O-CHA, it's like stepping into Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange." With its sleek, modern and white dιcor, downtown Greenville's newest business resembles the futuristic milk bars of the film. But the similarities end there. For starters O-CHA is a tea bar. While there is more on the menu than tea, it's the specialty. The name of the bar itself means tea in Japanese.
Husband and wife team, Mike and Mallie Majaris, got the idea for a tea bar from visits to Mike's family in Toronto. They had always wanted to open a business, Mallie says, but they weren't sure what to focus on until they both fell in love with bubble tea.
"For us to finally be open, it's a relief," Mallie says.
With the concept ready, Mike and Mallie had to find a space and prepare it to fit their vision. After a year of hard work and several obstacles they were finally able to open.
"I think Greenville is at a point that they can accept it," Mallie says.
