The Converse Alumnae House is one of those that you pass but rarely get to visit.Located in the heart of Spartanburg, in a prime spot on Main Street, it is directly across from the College's main entrance.
Even though it was acquired by Converse in 1973, it is available to everyone, says Kathy Worley, director of special events at Converse.
And with a capacity of 500, availability for booking the entire day and a relatively low cost, it has been known to host quite a few.
The Cleveland family originally owned the house, but is now host to numerous parties and other events both associated and separate from Converse.
One of the more popular uses for the house is weddings and receptions. Should you pass by during the spring, there will most likely be a bride walking down the steps of the distinctive wraparound porch.
"People have gotten off of June weddings," Worley says. "I'm not saying June's not booked, but April's the month they fight for."
She says you should book "as soon as (you) think about it." She's already in the process of booking December 2005.
