Elliott Wood's one-bedroom condo is a mixture of hand-me-downs, yard sale finds and discount stores - "shabby chic" as she puts it.The Greenville native has always loved interior decorating and home design - a fondness that shines through in her own humble abode.
In general, she follows two rules - "never pay top dollar for anything" and there is such a thing as "too matchy-matchy."
"I've never seen anything that I had to have that I could not get at a Garden Ridge or a Pledge's or an antique store," Wood says. "I'm never gonna pay top dollar for anything.
"I like to mix things because I don't like them to be uniform. So I try to mix it up but still make it look like thought went into it."
With her condo she opted for a laid back, but put together feel. She achieved this by following her rules, reading magazines and the DIY Network.
"I don't want people to worry," Wood says. "I just want guests to come in and just flop down."
But as much fun as she has decorating, Wood has no plans to leave her advertising job for one in interior design anytime soon. For now, it will remain a hobby.
"I don't enjoy doing it for other people," she says. "People have their own tastes and trying to help someone figure out what they like can be more stressful than fun."
