When Meg Wallace came across the old car dealership building near Greenville's West End, it was love from the start. For years, she was fascinated by the historic place and had been curious about its interior.
When she found out it had a darkroom and it came up for sale, the photography major jumped at the chance to buy it.
"For years, I'd gone by it and I thought it was the coolest building," Wallace says. "So when it was put up for sale, I was like, 'Yeah, I'm gonna get it.' "
Now, the mixed-use condo serves as both a home and a workspace for Wallace, who focuses on photography and painting.
She shares the workspace with Rita Carson and Lisa Worley, and helps run Distinctive Finishes, Inc., out of the bottom floor.
Eventually, Wallace, Carson and Worley would like to build on their concept of an art gallery at home.
"I've always wanted an art gallery," Wallace says.
"But I liked the combination of a living space and for people to come into an area like this. I think it's more conducive for people to view art in a home environment."
