About seven years ago, Derrick Singleton had an idea. Now, the former U.S. Marine has a business.Singleton, 37, owns and runs MaxMotivation, a high-impact and intense workout.
With an average of 15 in each class, teamwork is one of the primary goals and objectives. Another aspect that runs hand in hand with the class is proper nutrition and eating right.
The class does a lot of running, especially with objects like carrying zodiacs or weights.
[Q] Is it really like bootcamp? I yell at the group as a whole but I don't touch anybody and get in people's faces. That's Parris Island stuff and I'm far removed from that. There's no grabbing or putting anybody down or hurting someone's feelings.
[Q] What's the purpose of the classes besides just getting in a good workout? My goal is to push you physically as hard as I can and get you to function together beyond just yourself.
[Q] What are classes like? Everything is outside. If it's pouring down rain, you're outside. If it's 102 degrees, you're outside. If it's sleeting, then you're outside. We take you into environments where you feel uncomfortable because life is gonna take you into venues you're uncomfortable with. They do events that they have to function together as a team.
[Q] So do you need a fitness background to join? The cool thing about it is the different levels. Anybody coming into a general fitness program can get involved and then progress from there. We take people to half-marathon and marathons. One of the things is it's results driven.
