Bob and Sue Whorton have two passions: pottery and Clemson football. It might seem an odd duo, but the couple has successfully merged their eclectic tastes within the rooms of their home on the banks of Lake Hartwell. Underneath it all, the Whortons just want their house to be a place where people feel welcome and where the two can partake in one of their favorite pastimes - entertaining. Especially during football season, when all five guest bedrooms are filled to capacity."We want people to be comfortable when they come here," Sue says. "(The house) is contemporary, but open, and great for entertaining. We have about 15 or 16 people staying with us for the big games."
Luckily the football dιcor and fans merge nicely with their love of regional art and their almost $30,000 pottery collection. The two like "the poor man's art" so much that it fills almost every room in their house, from bathrooms to bedrooms to kitchen, living room and hallway.
"We're just surrounded by it," Sue says. "We love it."
The only conflict? They tend to pare back on the gallery visits during the fall months.
